Morning slick spots, temps rebound by Friday

We are seeing some scattered light snow showers this morning, even some areas of drizzle. There are reports of slick spots on some roads in the Twin Cities metro area, as well as on roads in western Wisconin and southeastern Minnesota.  Many driveways and sidewalks are slick as well.

By this afternoon, we are expecting a cloud/sun mix with highs ranging from the lower 30s in southern Minnesota to the teens over far northern Minnesota.

Cool temps are expected Wednesday, then slightly warmer highs arrive on Thursday.

By Friday, the high temps over Minnesota and Wisconsin are downright impressive:

Snowiest month ahead?

We had some big March snowstorms in the Twin Cities in the 1950s.  Those snowstorms bumped up the 30 year March snowfall average, making March our snowiest month for awhile.  Some huge January snowfalls in the 1980s altered the 30-year averages to the point that January became our snowiest month. And it still is, based on the period 1981-2010.

Here is the list of the average monthy snowfall for our snowiest months in the Twin Cities:

1. January  12.2 inches

2. December 11.9 inches

3. March 10.3 inches

December is now our second snowiest month in the Twin Cities, our third snowiest month is March.
