Gov. Mark Dayton was hospitalized Sunday after fainting at an event in Woodbury.
The governor's Chief of Staff Jaime Tincher said Dayton was resting comfortably in Regions Hospital and joking with family, doctors and staff.
The governor was at an event Sunday evening that was "very crowded and hot," Tincher said.
"As he was speaking he began to feel increased pressure in his lower back," Tincher said. "At that point, the governor fainted."
Dayton, who turned 69 last week, has had a series of health problems in the past few years. He has had two spinal surgeries in the past three years and usually uses a cane.
Dayton senior advisor Bob Hume said on Twitter the governor was in good spirits, and that the incident didn't appear to be serious.
"The most likely culprit at this point seems to be dehydration," Hume said. "He's just staying overnight to make sure."
