A small fire on the Washington Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis temporarily interrupted service on a portion of the Green Line light rail line on Wednesday morning.
Minneapolis Fire Department Assistant Chief Bryan Tyner said possessions that may have been belonged to a homeless person caught fire under the bridge and spread into wiring. The fire was quickly extinguished with just a fire extinguisher.
Tyner said light rail traffic was temporarily halted across the bridge as a safety precaution until workers from Xcel Energy could inspect the site.
Light rail delays were reported shortly before 8 a.m. The trains had resumed full service by 11 a.m.
Metro Transit said buses shuttled passengers between the Downtown East station in Minneapolis and Raymond Avenue station in St. Paul.
