A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines says the company may drop direct service between the Twin Cities and Tokyo, which is the only nonstop flight that Delta offers from Minneapolis to Asia.

The potential move comes in reaction to a proposal that would move most international flights from one Tokyo airport to another.

Before it merged with Delta, Northwest Airlines was a dominant carrier to Asia. Starting in the 1950s, Northwest called itself Northwest Orient Airlines to highlight its service to the continent.
