Homicide trial postponed due to defendant's contractions

The trial of a St. Paul woman charged with fatally stabbing the father of her unborn child was put on hold because she began having contractions.

Natalie Jonelle Pollard went to the hospital Wednesday afternoon just as proceedings in her trial were getting underway for the day in Ramsey County District Court. The 34-year-old Pollard is charged with second-degree murder in the July death of Obinna Nwankpa. Pollard says he showed up at her town home, broke in and attacked her, so she stabbed him.

Authorities say four of Pollard's children were home asleep at the time of the stabbing.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the judge asked jurors to return on Tuesday.
