Today's Morning Edition music is from the song "We Can Work it Out" by the Beatles, which was No. 1 on the U.S. pop chart 50 years ago Tuesday.
It was one of the more collaborative compositions by the band in that era. Paul McCartney wrote the beginning part about a troubled relationship. John Lennon helped him come up with the more philosophical middle section. And George Harrison suggested that part be played in a three-four waltz meter.
It was the sixth straight single released by the Beatles to reach No. 1 in the U.S.
