Winters, a political scientist at Northwestern University who studies economic elites, “and save in the tens or hundreds of millions in taxes.” (New York Times)

2. A rising number of Minnesota's college students come from other countries. (MPR News)

3. Some new state laws take effect on Friday. (MPR News)

4. Also from the Times, a profile of the Itasca Project, the group of business leaders trying to solve problems in Minnesota. (New York Times)

5. Something very odd is expected to happen at the North Pole today. (The Atlantic)
