MPR News host Tom Weber sat down Thursday with two former county attorneys Tom Johnson and Susan Gaertner about their proposals for reform in the criminal justice system.
They co-authored an op-ed in the Star-Tribune that in which they offered ideas including better deescalation techniques for police.
They also discussed changing sentencing laws, one of the few bipartisan conversations on Capitol Hill that's been had in recent years, along with debates over grand juries that were issues raised in protests from Ferguson to the Fourth Precinct in Minneapolis.
Tom Johnson was Hennepin County Attorney from 1979-1991; Susan Gaertner was Ramsey County Attorney from 1995-2011.
