Brian Peterson has made countless trips between his Twin Cities home and a one-room shack tucked away among the mighty pines and delicate aspen north of Duluth. It's a place of reflection and rejuvenation for the native Minnesotan.
Peterson, 56, a longtime Minneapolis Star Tribune photographer, spent much of last year blazing fresh trails as he ventured to all four corners of Minnesota — one region per season. More than 30,000 miles and hundreds of photographs later, Peterson's appreciation for the North Star State is at an all-time high.
Portions of the project — appropriately titled "State of Wonders" — first appeared in the newspaper's travel section. Peterson recently published the project in a coffee-table book. It features more than 100 color photographs, essays by travel writer and Star Tribune colleague Kerri Westenberg and a foreword by renowned photographer Jim Brandenburg.
In the spirit of the season, we're sharing a selection of Peterson's fall photographs featuring southeast Minnesota.
