Thought Labor Day marked the end of Minnesota's major road construction season? Not quite.
Twin Cities drivers will need to deal with delays and a major detour through St. Paul starting Friday, Sept. 11. That's when the Minnesota Department of Transportation will shut down Interstate 94 westbound at Interstate 35E.
• Lane closures on westbound I-94 will start at 6 p.m. Sept. 11, and the road will close completely at 8 p.m. that night as crews work to remove the bridge deck on the ramp from southbound I-35E to eastbound I-94 and southbound Minnesota Highway 52, which spans westbound I-94, MnDOT said Friday.
• The road is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14.
• Drivers will be detoured to northbound I-35E, westbound Minnesota Highway 36 and southbound Minnesota Highway 280 to I-94.
The work is part of the I-35E Cayuga project, which aims to reconstruct I-35E between University Avenue and Maryland Avenue, including replacement of the Cayuga Bridge, the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge and the railroad bridges along I-35E, MnDOT said.
