Elvis and Beatles made a historic meeting 50 years ago

Fifty years ago today, a historic meeting took place.

The Beatles were on a U.S. tour and had a chance to spend some time with one of their music idols, Elvis Presley.

They stopped by his mansion in Los Angeles at about 10 p.m. While they were there, Ringo played pool with some of Elvis' buddies — and they met his future bride, Priscilla.

At the time, Elvis was infatuated with a new song that he played over and over again on his personal jukebox — he even played along with the song on a bass guitar.

The song: Country singer Charlie Rich's latest single. After the meeting, John Lennon sent a message to Elvis letting the singer know that "if it hadn't been for him, the Beatles would be nothing."
