A special election is set for Dec. 8 in Minnesota House District 3A to fill the vacancy caused by the recent death of Rep. David Dill, DFL-Crane Lake.
Gov. Mark Dayton issued a Writ of Special Election Monday for the seat. The filing period for candidates starts Tuesday and ends at 5 p.m. on Aug. 31.
If needed, a special primary will be held Sept. 29.
The district includes all or part of Cook, Koochiching, Lake and St. Louis counties.
Two DFLers -- Ely City Council Member Heidi Omerza and Koochiching County Commissioner Rob Ecklund, have already announced their candidacies in 3A.
The blog Minnesota Brown reports that Democrat Bill Hansen, who ran against Dill in 2004, is also a candidate.
