Minneapolis police said a driver in south Minneapolis on Friday threw bricks or pieces of concrete at four bicyclists. A 20-year-old man was severely injured and another received minor injuries.
Police received reports of two assaults in southeast Minneapolis and two additional assaults in southwest Minneapolis at about 4:20 p.m., according to police spokesperson John Elder.
Some witnesses have come forward with information about the suspect. Police said he was described as a black man wearing a glove on his left hand, driving a white Ford Bronco that had a broken window covered with a piece of wood.
Elder said it doesn't appear that these assaults were part of a pattern.
"These are rare," Elder said. "These were very random assaults, and we would really like to get ahold of this person and find out why he did what he did."
The seriously injured victim was attacked near 41st Street and Bryant Avenue. He's identified in a GoFundMe page set up by his family as Mackenzie Jensen and is undergoing facial reconstruction surgery. His family is raising money to cover Jensen's medical expenses and time he must take off work.
Police are asking for anyone with information about the suspect to call (612) 692-8477 or to text MPD with the tip to 847411.
