Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk performed Monk's composition "Round Midnight" live at the Newport Jazz Festival 60 years ago today.
It was the festival's second year, and the performance is considered a career comeback for Davis. In the early 1950's he was addicted to heroin, which affected his music and personal life. But by 1955, Davis had kicked the habit and his performance at the festival was hailed by critics and fans.
Soon afterwards, he signed a recording contract with Colombia Records.
