When it comes to tattooing, male artists outnumber females by an estimated six to one. Jackalope Tattoo, with its all-female staff, is a reaction to that. On any given day, the Minneapolis shop is a blend of combat boots and kitty cats.

Caroline Johnson showed off her newest tattoo, a creation of Jackalope artist Amo Tarvas. "It's cool that we're an all-female shop," said Tarvas. "At the same time, I wish a group of female tattoo artists wasn't such a novelty. And hopefully it won't be much longer."
