Vikings owner Zygi Wilf, Minnesota Twins owner Jim Pohlad, Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold and Minnesota United FC owner Bill McGuire joined Nick Halter from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal for a roundtable discussion of various issues in Minnesota professional sports.
Some of the highlights from Halter's recap of the conversation:
Vikings stadium naming rights
Wilf said he hopes to announce "shortly" which company is buying naming rights for the new downtown Minneapolis Vikings stadium.
"We have a tremendous field of candidates here in Minnesota, the home of many Fortune 500 companies," Wilf said.
Soccer stadium update
McGuire said his team is having challenges getting legislative support for stadium construction tax breaks.
Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber gave the team a July deadline for a stadium plan. McGuire said he's still optimistic about the project.
"I wouldn't get too caught up in hard deadlines," McGuire said.
The Business of Sports, Owners forum was presented by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal June 10, 2015 in St. Paul.
