The Native American community in Minnesota has been hard hit by a drug crisis.

"Many lives, families, and communities have been damaged or destroyed from this poison," White Earth Chief of Police Randy Goodwin said recently.

Last month, a federal grand jury indicted 41 people in connection with a drug trafficking ring that focused on two Indian reservations - Red Lake and White Earth.

According to authorities, the multi-state ring obtained heroin, meth, and other drugs in Chicago, Detroit, and Minneapolis - and then sold them in and around the reservations.

MPR News' Tom Weber discussed the impact these drugs have had and what to do about it.
