The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center has pulled the trigger on a severe thunderstorm watch for western Minnesota. The watch does not include the Twin Cities, but runs up to the far western metro counties.

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHWESTERN MINNESOTA
CENTRAL AND EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA
* EFFECTIVE THIS TUESDAY AFTERNOON FROM 450 PM UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT.
* PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE... ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
SUMMARY...THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY INTO EARLY EVENING AND MOVE SOUTHEASTWARD...OFFERING DAMAGING WIND AND SPORADIC LARGE HAIL BEFORE WEAKENING LATER THIS EVENING. FOR MORE METEOROLOGICAL INFORMATION...SEE SPC MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 955.
Storms favor western and central Minnesota into early evening. Storm coverage may increase in the Twin Cities after 7 p.m. tonight. The storms have a history of large hail in western Minnesota and eastern South Dakota.
