Today's Morning Edition music is from 50 years ago Friday, when "Help Me, Rhonda" by the Beach Boys was No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart.

It was their second song to top the charts and the first hit to feature Al Jardine as the lead vocalist.

Jardine became part of the Beach Boys through his friendship with Brian Wilson. They played football together at Hawthorne High School in Los Angeles.

Speaking of Wilson, a new movie about his mental health struggles opens in theaters Friday. It's called "Love and Mercy."
