Nobody could have predicted the Minnesota Orchestra's story these past couple of years. From the depths of a bitter lockout and the resignation of music director Osmo Vanska to the triumphant Cuban tour under that same music director just last month.

Amid serious financial questions and dwindling audiences, MPR News' Tom Crann looked at the state of America's orchestras.

How will they find a path forward to the next generation of concertgoers? What is their role in our communities?
