Late last week, three more automakers — Fiat Chrysler, BMW and Honda — issued recalls because of airbags that are possibly faulty.
That means 34 million cars nationally, and over 50 million worldwide, now have been recalled because of airbags made by supplier Takata. We're now in the largest automotive recall ever.
The airbags are said to explode prematurely, especially after prolonged exposure to high humidity. So how does a company choose to go public with a recall, and what are the calculations involved?
