Many a Charlie Parr fan will tell you his music transforms you to another time. As one reviewer noted, "Parr may have been born during the Nixon era, but you can taste the grit of the Dust Bowl in his music."
Parr, a native of Austin, Minn. whose parents worked in the meatpacking plants that made that town famous, now lives in Duluth just a few blocks from Lake Superior.
He recently stopped by the MPR studios to chat with MPR News' Tom Weber and play some tracks from his new and 13th album, "Stumpjumper."
Songs played on air (in order): "Over the Red Cedar," "Remember Me If I Forget," "Falcon"
Parr will be performing at Grand Old Day in St. Paul on June 7 and the Blue Ox Music Festival in Eau Claire on June 11.
