Obama nominates MN Justice Wright for federal bench

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama has nominated Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Wilhelmina Wright to serve on the U.S. District Court in Minnesota to replace retiring Chief Judge Michael Davis.

In a statement, Obama said he was proud to nominate Wright and praised her "long and distinguished record of service."

With 15 years experience as a judge, Wright is no stranger to the courtroom. She's served on the Minnesota Supreme Court since 2012 and also served on the Ramsey County District Court and the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

The big question is how long it will take her to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

In the three months since Republicans took control of the chamber, just one of President Obama's judicial nominees has been confirmed.
