A cross-border partnership of groups in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Ontario has teamed up with National Geographic to roll out a new mobile app and website for travelers seeking unspoiled places and culturally authentic experiences.

The Geotourism MapGuide, with its Heart of the Continent Mobile App, highlights the landscapes and people of the cross-border region. It's designed to showcase to local, national and international audiences the natural, cultural and historic attractions that define the region.

Rollout events are planned for Thursday at the Glensheen Mansion in Duluth and Grand Portage National Monument in Grand Portage, and Friday at Fort William Historical Park in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Locals have nominated more than 400 favorite points of interest for inclusion. Residents and visitors may continue to nominate new sites and events.
