Rep. Erin Murphy, DFL-St. Paul, says she’s considering a run for St. Paul Mayor in 2017.
Murphy, was DFL House Majority Leader in 2013 and 2014. She said she’s been approached by several constituents and friends to consider running for the job when Mayor Chris Coleman’s third term ends in 2017.
“I’m contemplating my options about my future opportunities to represent both my city and my state,” Murphy said. “As I think about it, I’m going to think about the people of Minnesota."
Murphy said other options may include a run for governor in 2018. She said she hopes to make a decision on a mayoral run by the end of the year.

She added that she’ll have to discuss her future with her constituents before determining whether she’ll run for mayor, governor or re-election to the House.
Murphy represents the St. Paul neighborhoods of Mac Groveland, Highland Park and Merriam Park. She was first elected to the Minnesota House in 2006. Before that she was executive director of the Minnesota Nurses Association.
There are several people being mentioned as possible candidates for St. Paul Mayor.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the possible field includes St. Paul City Council member Pat Harris, former St. Paul City Council member Melvin Carter, St. Paul Deputy Mayor Kristin Beckmann and Ramsey County Commissioner Jim McDonough.
