"Best of My Love" by the Eagles was atop the pop charts 40 years ago today. It was not initially released as one of the singles from the 1974 album "On the Border."
But Jim Higgs, the program director at WKMI in Kalamazoo, MI, liked it and put the song in regular rotation on his station. It quickly became the most requested song on WKMI.
Higgs let the record company know what was happening and it considered pressing 1,000 copies of "Best of My Love" just for the Kalamazoo market, but decided to try a national release. It would become the Eagles' first number one hit.
