Guitarist Sam Andrew, one of the founding members of Big Brother and the Holding Company, died Feb. 12 at the age of 73 from complications due to open heart surgery.

Andrew helped launch the career of Janis Joplin, led the Sam Andrew Band, scored films, and wrote two string quartets and a symphony.

Today's Morning Edition music is "Combination of the Two," from Big Brother's acclaimed 1968 album "Cheap Thrills."
