Next year’s political caucuses are now on the calendar -- scheduled for March 1.
The chairs of the DFL and Republican parties announced today that they're moving the state’s precinct caucuses to March 1, 2016. Precinct caucuses have typically been held in February.
In a letter to Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, Republican Party Chair Keith Downey and DFL Party Chair Ken Martin write they're moving the caucus date from February to March to meet the requirements for the 2016 Presidential nominating process as outlined by the national party committees.
The nonbinding caucuses will give the public a sense of how the presidential candidates are faring in Minnesota. Both parties intend to hold a presidential straw poll at the caucuses.
