Navigating the streets around St. Paul's Como Park could soon get a little easier.
The City Council on Wednesday takes up a resolution that renames some of the streets in the park. The idea is to simplify Como Avenue, a street council member Amy Brendmoen says has been hard to follow.
"It stopped at Hamline Avenue, and then really didn't fully restart until you were near the south end of the lake," she said. "And so it was pretty confusing."
To fix the problem, Brendmoen wants to change the name of part of Horton Avenue to Como. But that creates a domino effect: Another stretch of what's currently called Como would become Wynne Avenue. And Gateway Drive would become Nagasaki Road.
Brendmoen says it makes more sense if you see it on a map — but even if the resolution passes, the area will still pose navigational challenges to the uninitiated. In addition to Como Avenue, there's also Como Place, Como Boulevard and Como Lake Drive.
