New York Times columnist and NPR commentator David Brooks said in his 2014 Aspen Ideas Festival lecture that we live in a competitive, technological and publicity-seeking culture. He suggests there are some values that can serve as an antidote or "counter-culture." Those values are honesty, humility, self-control and courage.
