After weeks of blowback, Tomassoni drops Range job

Sen. David Tomassoni, DFL-Chisholm, said this morning that he’s not going to take a job with the Range Association of Municipalities and Schools (RAMS).

He announced his decision just two hours after the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board said it wasn't a conflict of interest for him to take the job. The board added, however, that Tomassoni's actions as a senator could trigger an additional complaint.

Tomassoni sought the opinion after it came to light that he was taking the position with the group that lobbies the Legislature.

After weeks of blowback, Tomassoni decided to step aside.

In a statement, he said “after further consideration of how best to represent my constituents and the Iron Range, I have decided to decline the role of Executive Director for RAMS.”

Here's Tomassoni's full statement and resignation letter:

“Today the Campaign Finance Board issued the advisory opinion I requested relating to my role at RAMS. I am pleased that the opinion finds I do not have a conflict of interest in accepting this position,” Tomassoni said. “However, after further consideration of how best to represent my constituents and the Iron Range, I have decided to decline the role of Executive Director for RAMS.”

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation of the support from my constituents, colleagues, and RAMS Board during this process,” Tomassoni said.
