Today's Morning Edition music is, in part, from Sam Smith with his song "Stay With Me," which is up for Song of the Year at the Grammys.
Smith played a sold-out show at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul over the weekend.
Smith has revealed that Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne are now listed as co-writers of this song. They initiated legal action claiming that Smith stole the melody in the chorus from the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers song "I Won't Back Down."
Smith claims he had not heard the Petty song until it was brought to his attention, but acknowledges the similarity.
