The midterm elections are just five days away. When the new Congress takes office in January members will work with President Barack Obama on several foreign policy issues.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer recently talked with the top candidates for one of Minnesota's Senate seats about foreign polic. Then, Wurzer discussed the candidates's comments with James Jeffrey at the Washington Institute.
Jeffrey served as ambassador to Iraq under President Obama and was deputy national security adviser during the George W. Bush administration. Both Franken and McFadden have focused on the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, during the campaign. The Obama administration has been accused of being too slow to act in Syria and withdrawing too fast from Iraq.
