Weather winning streak continues

Blissful autumn earned

Minnesota weather has both a twisted sense of humor, and a forgiving sense of grace.

We hunched and endured wave after wave of bitter polar vortex attacks in the first quarter of 2014. We lived through a virtual car wash on steroids, battled rising water and failing sump pumps in the second quarter.

Yes, we paid our weather dues early and often this year. We have rightfully earned the autumnal bliss drifting overhead this fall.

Our weather winning streak continues for most of the next week. The only downside of our mild dry run is things are getting a little dry out there. We could use some rain, and we will need a good widespread soaking rain or two before freeze-up in the next six weeks.

  • Nov. 18 - average date of first 1 inch snowfall at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport

  • Dec. 8 - average date of initial soil freeze up at MSP

High pressure keeps skies sunny into midweek. A weak front approaches Wednesday and triggers a few showers into Thursday morning.

Temps run a good 5 to 10 degrees warmer than average again by later this week. Our extended Indian summer returns by Thursday, as temps make another run into the 60s. Our weather pattern looks favorable to this forecaster for another shot at 70 degrees by Friday afternoon, and possibly again next weekend.

The latest medium range model runs still hint at cooler temps starting around Halloween, but nothing too arctic just yet. Temps in the 40s for trick-or-treaters?

We'll see.

Meanwhile, we have more sunny days on the prairie ahead. Here's a shot from beautiful Carver Park Reserve from Sunday afternoon.
