Second baby zebra born at Como Zoo

A Como Zoo zebra named Thelma gave birth to a baby boy over the weekend. Zookeepers found him Sunday morning when they arrived at work.
“There were no complications and mother and baby appear to be doing great,” said Allison Jungheim, senior zookeeper.
A month and a half ago, another zebra, Minnie, gave birth to a female, Melee. Father Ulysses sired both the new foals.

With the new additions, there are now five Grant’s zebras at the zoo. Grant’s zebras are native to areas of eastern Africa, including Kenya and Ethiopia.
Both mothers and babies can be seen daily in the outdoor Zebra and Kudu exhibit from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the zoo in St. Paul.
