Minnesota weather brings relief; Pacific hurricane expected to weaken

A cool front moved through Minnesota in the past 18 hours lowering the dew points and ushering in a refreshing change in air masses.

At 11 a.m. Monday, temperatures ranged from a cool 55 at Thief River Falls to 79 in Winona, in southeast Minnesota.

Cloud cover will likely inhibit a climb in temperatures in northwest Minnesota this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the heat is on in parts of Missouri and Illinois.  St. Louis topped out at 98 degrees Sunday, with a heat index of 108.  Stifling conditions continue today.

At 11 a.m. Monday, it was already 92 degrees with a heat index of 102 in St. Louis.

Two tropical storms are of interest, but neither appears to pose a threat to the U.S. mainland.

Hurricane Marie, in the eastern Pacific, is forecast to weaken as it tracks northwest. Hurricane Marie is a a major, category 4  hurricane,  with sustained winds of 145 mph this morning.
