Low pressure rides south of Minnesota Wednesday. Scattered rain favors the Interstate 90 corridor, but any significant rainfall should stay south of the metro.
The low responsible has been active. Widespread rain and thunder rides through Iowa and heads for Chicago with the system.

As of this writing a major derecho event is taking shape across Nebraska and Iowa heading for Illinois. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration defines a derecho as a "widespread, long-lived wind storm associated with a band of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms."

Damaging winds up to 100 mph have occurred with this system, and tornado reports are climbing into the double digits.
