A former DFL state representative is running as a Green Party candidate for Minnesota attorney general.
Andy Dawkins of St. Paul filed for office today, joining four other candidates running for attorney general, including incumbent DFLer Lori Swanson. Dawkins is a lawyer who served 15 years in the Minnesota House, from 1987 to 2002. He said as a third party candidate, he’s running in the true political center where most Minnesotans are at.
“I love Democrats. I’m married to one," Dawkins said. "But I need to see some action. It’s time voters had an authentic choice that’s not a Democrat or not a Republican.”
Dawkins is married to former state Sen. Ellen Anderson, who recent left a job in DFL Gov. Mark Dayton’s office to work at the University of Minnesota. He said her job change allowed him to get back into politics.
The other candidates trying to unseat Swanson are Republican state Senator Scott Newman and Brandan Borgos of the Independence Party. Frequent candidate Sharon Anderson has also filed as a Republican.
