Rains drench central MN; be alert for flash flooding

Heavy rains soaked parts of central Minnesota in the past 24 hours.  More than 2 inches of rain accumulated at Breezy Point, Minnesota.  The atmosphere is juiced up and is likely to keep bouts of thunderstorms erupting  through Monday morning.

Browerville, northeast of Alexandria  in Todd County, Minnesota, reported 2.9 inches of rain through mid morning.

Radar estimated rainfall totals through 11:12 a.m. indicated the greatest accumulation in central and north Minnesota.

As MPR News meteorologist Paul Huttner noted yesterday, additional rainfall totals by noon on Monday could exceed three inches in some locations.  A flash flood watch is in effect for northeast Minnesota, including Duluth.

Potential rainfall totals predicted this afternoon through 7 a.m. on Monday from the National Weather Service highly suggest awareness of flash flooding, particularly in the overnight hours.

Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Your automobile  can be swept away by rapidly flowing waters.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes,  are extremely dangerous and can kill.  Clear the golf course and lake if lightning is observed and thunder is heard.
