Thunderstorms likely to erupt quickly and intensify rapidly

The afternoon warmth is likely to fire up strong to severe storms over southern Minnesota.

Some storms will quickly become severe.  Be prepared to move to shelter promptly if a warning is issued for for area.  Large, damaging hail and isolated tornadoes are the main threat.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center has outlined the area most likely to see severe storms this afternoon and evening.

Stay away from windows.  If a tornado warning is issued move to the lowest level with as many walls between you and the outside as possible.

Track severe weather from the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities.

Based on the short-term weather models, the threat for severe weather is the highest in the Twin Cities after 3 p.m. , but storms could develop quickly.
