More than 100 guns were reported lost or stolen from licensed gun dealers in the state of Minnesota last year, according to a report released today by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives.

The agency found that most of the 109 missing firearms -- 74 -- were reported lost by Federal Fireams Licensees - also called FFLs.

Gun dealers are required to report lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours. The number of lost or stolen guns from FFLs has dropped since 2012 when 169 were reported missing.

An executive order issued by President Obama in January of last year required the ATF to release the annual reports on stolen and lost guns.

Law enforcement officials say stolen and lost guns pose a significant threat to public safety.
