A 36-year-old Maplewood man is dead and his 84-year-old father is being treated for critical injuries after a brief standoff in Maplewood Monday afternoon.

Maplewood police were called to a residence off County Road B East at 11:51 a.m. on reports of a shooting.

Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell said the father, Pang Vang, had barricaded himself in the house with his son, Chue Vang. Family members told police that the two had been arguing, and that Pang Vang had shot Chue Vang.

Police and Ramsey County swat officers entered the house at 2 p.m. after a brief standoff.

Schnell said Chue Vang was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound at the scene.

Police found Pang Vang in a bedroom. He had multiple stab wounds that police said were likely self-inflicted. Pang Vang was transported to Regions Hospital and is in critical condition.

Schnell said the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is helping with the investigation.
