The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the two people killed in a Minneapolis house fire on Tuesday night.
Firefighters were called to the house at 2940 Washburn Ave. N. shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday. They found a fire burning in the living room of the single story home there, and quickly extinguished it. They also found a man and woman dead in a bedroom nearby.
Autopsy results released today show Genie Caldwell and Jeffrey Howard, both 49 years old, died of smoke inhalation. Fire investigators think the fire was accidental and may have started from careless smoking or an electrical malfunction.
Ten people have now died in Minneapolis house fires this year. Three people were killed in a New Year's Day explosion in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, and five children were killed in a north Minneapolis duplex fire on Valentine's Day.
