Obama to travel to the Twin Cities next Wednesday

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama will travel to the Twin Cities next Wednesday, Feb. 26 for an event on the economy, the White House announced Thursday. A spokesman said further details about the event would be released in the coming days.

It's possible Obama will be promoting his budget proposal which is set to be released the following week.

Obama's visit comes as his approval ratings in Minnesota have slipped to record lows. According to a Star Tribune poll this month, just 43 percent of Minnesota voters approve of the job Obama is doing, down from 62 percent in April 2009.

It will be the second high-profile visit to the state in a week. Vice President Joe Biden was in Minneapolis on Wednesday for an event to promote the Affordable Care Act and to attend a fundraiser.

This visit comes almost exactly a year after Obama's last trip to Minnesota, when he touted stricter gun control policies in Minneapolis though those efforts were later defeated in the U.S. Senate.
