Northstar commuter trains were delayed this evening after two trains traveling in opposite directions collided with a vehicle.
Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland said it happened around 5:15 p.m. in Elk River.
"Elk River police are leading the investigation into the collision. I do understand that there were no reported injuries from the scene. And Metro Transit initiated a replacement bus service to help out those customers as expediently as we could," Siqveland said.
Police Chief Brad Rolfe said the signal was working but the driver ignored it.

"At some point the driver drove around the stop arms. They attempted to make a U-turn between the arms on the crossing," said Rolfe. "They were struck by an eastbound Northstar commuter train."
The train hit the front of the car, and the driver and two passengers were able to escape unhurt. A short time later a westbound train broadsided the car.
Early Monday, a Northstar train struck a car that was stuck on the tracks. The driver escaped but she was not able to remove her infant son from the vehicle before the train struck. Neither she nor the child suffered any injuries.
