Minnesota's flu season may be winding down, or at least tapering a bit.

The Minnesota Department of Health says this is the second week in a row that it has classified influenza activity as regional in scope, rather than widespread.

There were 63 hospitalizations related to flu last week, which is about half the number of hospitalizations as reported the previous week. There were no flu outbreaks in long-term care facilities. Also, the health department's testing laboratory received fewer patient cultures that were positive for flu.

The only influenza indicator that rose slightly was school-based outbreaks. There were eight last week compared to six the previous week.

Health department spokesman Doug Schultz said it's too early to tell what's happening with the flu outbreak. It's possible that flu cases will spike again before the season ends, according to Schultz.
