Minnesota residents can now apply for enhanced driver's licenses or identification cards that will make it easier to go back and forth between the U.S. and certain countries.
The licenses can be used to re-enter the U.S. from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean. If a Minnesota resident has one of these enhanced licenses, no other forms of ID are required for re-entry.
Minnesota is the fifth state to use the enhanced cards. The licenses are already available to residents of Michigan, New York, Vermont and Washington.
Applications for enhanced licenses are only being offered at 14 license exam stations statewide. To apply, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen and Minnesota resident, and at least 16. The licenses cost $15 more than a regular driver's license or ID card.
