The death of Joan Mondale has particular meaning for Minnesota's arts community. She is being remembered as an artist and advocate for the arts, as much as for having been the spouse of a vice president.

An MPR News obituary quotes her as saying, "Some people still wonder why the government should subsidize the arts ... They might just well as ask why the government should subsidize our highways." President Jimmy Carter named her an "arts ombudsman" during his administration.

The Daily Circuit talks with Larry Redmond, an arts lobbyist, about Joan Mondale's influence and legacy.
