By way of Jen Post, who is married to MPR News reporter Tim Post, here's a video of a parking garage fire at the University of Minnesota near the Fairview Medical Center.
University spokesman Matt Hodson told the Associated Press that three vehicles ignited on the upper level of the parking ramp Tuesday, sending a black cloud of smoke into the air. Hodson says Minneapolis firefighters have the fire under control and no one has been hurt.
The fire occurred around 12:30 p.m noon on the sixth floor of a ramp on Delaware Street between Walnut and Harvard streets, university spokesman Steve Henneberry said.
Authorities received no reports of any explosions, he added. The fire did not damage the parking ramp.
Firefighters have not officially determined the cause of the fire, but it appeared to have started from the engine compartment of the middle vehicle, according to a statement from Minneapolis Fire Department Assistant Chief Charles Brynteson.
The fight was hampered by the cold and heavy smoke conditions, causing the fire to spread to the two surrounding cars, the department said.
