Dayton urges state Supreme Court to reject Vikings stadium lawsuit

Gov. Mark Dayton hopes the state Supreme Court quickly rejects a lawsuit that threatens to delay construction of a new Vikings stadium.

Thousands of jobs are at stake, and the suit appears to be nothing more than a publicity stunt aimed at making it harder for the state to raise money for its share of the project, Dayton told reporters Tuesday.

"People are going to suffer very serious consequences of this project being derailed. And it could happen very quickly if we don't get a very quick response from the Supreme Court,” he said. “This is a very urgent situation,” he added. “The consequences are really severe."

Three Minneapolis residents filed the lawsuit earlier this month claiming the stadium financing is unconstitutional. The lawsuit forced the state to at least temporarily hold off on a bond sale to cover a portion of the $1 billion stadium.
